How Bail Works
When someone you care about is arrested, the process can feel overwhelming. We're here to walk you through every step — clearly and without pressure.
What Is Bail?
Bail is a set amount of money that acts as insurance between the court and the person who has been arrested. When bail is paid, the defendant is released from jail with the agreement that they will appear at all required court dates.
Most families cannot afford to pay the full bail amount out of pocket. That's where a bail bondsman comes in. A licensed bail bond agent posts the full bail on your behalf in exchange for a non-refundable premium — typically 10-15% of the total bail amount in North Carolina.

Here's exactly what happens from arrest to release.
Arrest & Booking
After an arrest, the defendant is taken to a local jail for booking. This process includes recording personal information, taking fingerprints, and mugshots. Booking typically takes a few hours.
Bail Is Set
A judge sets the bail amount based on the severity of the charge, the defendant's criminal history, and their ties to the community. For minor offenses, bail may be set automatically using a standard schedule.
Call Arrow Bail Bonds
Contact us as soon as bail is set. One of our licensed agents will gather the necessary information — the defendant's full name, the jail they're held at, and the charges — and explain your options clearly.
Sign the Agreement
A co-signer (usually a family member or close friend) signs the bail bond agreement and pays the premium. The co-signer takes on responsibility for ensuring the defendant appears at all court dates.
Bond Is Posted
Our agent posts the bail bond directly with the jail. Once processed, the defendant is released — typically within a few hours, depending on the facility's workload.
Court Appearances
The defendant must appear at every scheduled court date. If they fail to appear, the bond may be forfeited and a warrant issued. We'll keep you informed of your obligations throughout the process.
